On the occasion of National Trail Day, Sunrise Rotary is participating in a community-wide effort to clean-up the SRT: Annual National Trails Day – June 3, 2017 Clean Up and Learn more about Our Trails Volunteer Opportunity Come join Friends of Saranac River Trail for our annual cleanup for National Trails Day! This is a great chance to volunteer your time to ensure this location is ready for the busy summer months! We provide vests and bags for all volunteers, so just bring yourself and others looking to work toward improving our city's trail system. Where: Wilcox Dock, off of Cumberland Ave, Plattsburgh, NY When: Saturday, June 3, 2017, at 11 am Learn More about Our Trails – Media Opportunity Many cities are discovering the benefits of investing in the health of their residents by designing multi-modal pathways to connect various points of interests. At 11:30 at the Sunrise Pavilion at Wilcox Dock, Jesse Feiler, President of the Friends of the Saranac River Trail (SRT) and President of the Saranac River Trail Greenway (SRTG), will provide an update on the major extensions planned for the SRT in Plattsburgh and the plans for the Saranac River Trail Greenway to extend the SRT twenty-seven miles to the town of Saranac. The Saranac River Trail Greenway will connect neighborhoods from the City and Town of Plattsburgh to Schuyler Falls and Saranac, providing residents and visitors a window into the Adirondack Coast and all it has to offer. Designed for active transportation and outdoor recreation, this path will extend a total of 27 miles, linking residents and visitors to nature, world class fishing, jobs, schools, shopping, restaurants, parks, and other attractions. 43,000 people live within a 15-minute bike ride of the SRTG. With over 1.5 miles already built and more opening over the next year, the trail system is already bolstering the quality of life in the region. The SRT has been transformational in its ability to connect SUNY to the City of Plattsburgh and in the beautification of the campus landscape. In addition to health and environmental benefits, the SRTG, once complete, offers a powerful economic impact component including an estimated $1,462,200 in tourism spending.

Bio: Born in Ashburn, GA. After service with the U.S. Navy, married Delena (Dee) Galarneau from Keeseville. Graduated from the State University at Plattsburgh with a BA in Behavioral Science. With Dee, owned and operated Clark’s Flower Shops in Plattsburgh and Chazy, the Plattsburgh Flower Market and the Burlington Flower Market. Have thirty-five years of law enforcement experience with the New York State Police, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Services as well as operating Adirondack Investigative Services in Plattsburgh. Joined the Plattsburgh AM Rotary Club in 1990, serving as Club President from 1999-2000. After retiring, moved to Aiken, South Carolina in 2008. Armed with the experiences of my law enforcement careers and memories of the North Country, decided to take up my pen (or in this case, the computer). Four years later, and with the help of Dee, friends, and the South Carolina’s Writers Association, published the first novel in the Marc LaRose Mystery Series, “Borderline Terror.” This story is about a Private Detective who takes an insurance assignment to look into the death of a patron at an upscale inn in Lake Placid. During the course of the investigation, Marc teams up with the Inn’s concierge (Sophie) and the two soon discover a plot to disrupt the village’s plans to host the 2027 Winter Olympics by terrorists who have been hired by a competing European City. In the second book of the series, Southbound Terror, Marc teams up with a female Brossard Police Detective to look for a missing person who is the lead engineer for a Plattsburgh railcar manufacturer that has developed a high speed passenger train linking Montreal to New York City. This story involves international conspiracy, Montreal’s criminal underworld, and a foreign aggressor with plans to wreak havoc when the train reaches its intended destination in the U.S. |

Wish Granting Fund CVPH Foundation
Aug. 01, 2017
The wish fund grants wishes for people with limited time who are living in Clinton County. This fund was created through a donation by the Clinton County Board of Realtors (“CCBR”) to The Foundation of CVPH (“Foundation”). CCBR partnered with the Foundation to help manage the funds and application process. Together, the Foundation and CCBR do our very best to grant wishes for those unable to create them on their own. We may receive many requests and will review each request as quickly as possible. |

The Clinton County Historical Association could really use our help with its Street Drive this Saturday. The money they raise from the Street Drive goes towards the general maintenance fund of the museum. The drive is from 9 am to 1 pm but they've split it into two, two-hour shifts (9 am - 11 am and 11 am - 1 pm) so the time goes by very quickly, especially when you have a jovial team. In my experience, drivers are very good natured and amazingly generous. The Street Drive locations are:
It looks like the weather will be cool and clear so that's great news. If you can make it, please email Helen Nerska at director@clintoncountyhistorical.org to let her know when and where you can help out. |
