Community Service

Service is one of the pillars of the Sunrise Rotary Club. Historically the club has embraced literacy and thus has worked with the local Literacy Council for various projects but particularly the organizations major fundraiser, The Literacy Challenge. Sunrise Rotarians set up the venues and conduct the college-bowl-style competition on the first Saturday in March every year. Annually the club reviews current and ongoing service projects to confirm that they continue to meet a need and are of interest to club members. This ranges from support of an eye clinic in India, a long-time international service project, or Rotary’s commitment to the eradication of polio worldwide to helping fund the local SPCA or various events for our area’s senior citizens.

Fundraising efforts have been developed to target specific community causes such as the Fall Into Pink Motorcycle Rally that benefits the American Cancer Society and FitzPatrick Cancer Center. However, most fundraisers such as the Mayor’s Cup ultimately benefit a wide cross section of community resources.

Some of the agencies that have regularly received financial support include:

  • United Way of Clinton & Essex County
  • Clinton Community College Foundation
  • CVPH Medical Center Foundation
  • Plattsburgh State University Foundation
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Literacy Volunteers
  • Battle of Plattsburgh
  • Mission of Hope
  • North Country Chapter of the American Red Cross
