Our Club
Meetings are held: Tuesdays @ 7:30am at the American Legion Post 20 - 162 Quarry Road, Plattsburgh, NY
Plattsburgh Sunrise Rotary was chartered on December 27, 1987 and was sponsored by the Plattsburgh Noon Rotary Club. The Charter listed 26 members, three of whom remain active today. The club has grown to its present membership of 54 men and women united in the ideals of Rotary as set forth by the founder, Paul Harris, and expressed in the Four Way Test found on the home page of this site.
Since its inception the Club has donated thousands of dollars and hours to local and international causes. Some local recipients include the SUNY Plattsburgh and Clinton Community College Foundations, Habitat for Humanity, the Christmas Bureau, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Mission of Hope, YMCA, Mental Health Association, Council on the Arts, Stop Domestic Violence, and Big Buddies.
Internationally, the Club has made a major long-term commitment to the Kakinada Eye Clinic in India, upgrading their ability to supply eye care to those who cannot afford it. The Club has secured grants from the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International as well as contributing its own funds to this project.
The Club also has been active in the Polio Plus Campaign to eradicate polio from the world, and has donated to relief funds for many international and national disasters, including the attacks on September 11, 2001.
Locally, the Plattsburgh Sunrise Club has donated materials and labor to build the Gazebo at the Riverwalk in downtown Plattsburgh, and the Healthy Lung Trail at Wilcox Dock.
The Club organizes and operates the Mayor's Cup Regatta, which is a major focus of the annual Mayor's Cup Festival & Regatta. Additionally, we collaborate in support of Literacy Volunteers of Clinton County to put on the annual Literacy Challenge fundraiser. Other Club fundraisers support our local service projects. Finally, an annual Paul Harris Fellows dinner, held jointly with the Plattsburgh Noon Rotary Club, honors Club and community members who exemplify Rotary's motto: Service Above Self.
