Improving the Nutritional Quality of Food Pantry Donations in Clinton County (INQFPDCC)

The local food environment poses a number of challenges for residents trying to access healthy foods.  Common barriers include the location of our grocery stores, limited selection and price variations throughout the county.  Due to these barriers, our local food pantries are an important resource for many residents.  However, food pantries often have limited capacity to accept, store and distribute healthier food items.

Grant Overview

INQFPDCC is a grant program funded by the New York State Health Foundation that is working to improve the nutritional quality of foods in our local food pantries.  The program is connecting with local organizations that coordinate food drives and local food pantries and their clients to increase donation and demand for healthier foods while also increasing each pantry’s ability to manage perishable food items.

By December of 2018, INQFPDCC will -

  • Increase the inventory of healthy food choices at local food pantries by encouraging healthy donations from the community;
  • Increase demand for healthier foods among food pantry clients through environmental changes.

End Distracted Driving

Attorney Drew Palcsik received his Juris Doctorate from Northeastern University and had been practicing law since 1998. He initially received his Masters of Social Work and decided the best way he could advocate for the injured, was to become a lawyer and help them navigate the legal system. Drew is the father of three sons, Owen, Lucas, and Julian. Drew lives in Middlebury, VT where he enjoys skiing, cycling, and running with his sons.
Drew began offering the End Distracted Driving presentation after hearing the presentation's creator, Joel Feldman, speak about losing his daughter Casey to a distracted driver at the age of 21. Drew has reached over 1,000 youth and adults over the past year and a half.  It is his goal to prevent anyone from being injured or killed by careless driving behaviors.

Stem Cell Therepy

 native of France, Dr Bonnabesse completed a Scientific studies at the University of St-Jerome in Marseilles where he receives an associate degree in Science (DEUG). He then moved to Burlington, Vermont, where he completed a bachelor’s degree in Zoology and Chemistry. He then obtained his Doctor of Medicine Diploma in 1996 from the University of Vermont. Afterward, he successfully completed a 4 year residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University Medical Center of Loma Linda in Southern California. Dr. Bonnabesse, then, went on to complete an Interventional Pain and Spine Fellowship in Colton, California, which he successfully completed in 2002. Dr Bonnabesse maintains dual Board certification in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation through the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and his Pain Certification through the American Board of Medical Specialties.

After the birth of their first child, Dr Bonnabesse and his wife returned to the North East, and in 2004 , Dr. Bonnabesse founded Champlain Spine and Pain Management in Plattsburgh. Since then, the practice has grown from one provider to 5 providers. In 2009, Dr Bonnabesse moved its practice to their brand new state of the art medical building to offer better comfort to their patients, and ease of care with on-site XR and ultrasound guided treatments. Dr Bonnabesse also created, 9 years ago, an interventional pain fellowship, which has allowed him to teach his interventional techniques to many physicians from across the country. Dr Bonnabesse’s philosophy, when it comes to his specialty, is that “there is no gain in pain”, and what he enjoys the most about his work, is to be able to improve his patient’s quality of life: “there is nothing more satisfying that to enable a woman to be able to carry her child or grand-child without excruciating pain, to allow a person to keep their job or to enable an outdoor person to return to his or her hobby. It is extremely gratifying to know that, at the end of the day, someone will able to sleep through the night without being awakened by pain”. At the end of the day it is really about making a positive difference in someone’s life”.

Dr. Bonnabesse enjoys spending his free time with his family which includes his wife, 2 children, and 3 dogs. He really enjoys the outdoors, and the beauty of our region. He has also been a competitive tennis player for over 35 years playing at the regional and national levels, both in France and in the US. He also enjoys international food and foreign languages.
