The Plattsburgh Sunrise Rotary Club hosted the 45th annual Mayor's Cup Regatta & Festival, Plattsburgh's most time-honored and highly anticipated summer tradition on Lake Champlain on July 9, 2022.
On Saturday morning boats participated in the Mayor's Cup Regatta, the premiere sailing competition on Lake Champlain. The Mayor’s Cup Regatta includes competitive races in three divisions - Cruising, Racing, and Multihull with prizes for all classes.
The Mayor’s Cup Festival was held at Plattsburgh’s City Beach, the crown jewel of the Lake City, boasting one of the longest sandy beaches on freshwater in the U.S. The one-day celebration kicked-off early with kayak rides and a 5K run/walk, and events were scheduled throughout the day for the whole family to enjoy. Live music and food vendors were at the beach as well to add to the day’s festivities.
The Plattsburgh Sunrise Rotary Club hosts the Mayor’s Cup Regatta & Festival as a way for our community to come together and celebrate summer in the North Country and to enjoy the beauty of the Champlain Valley and the majestic Lake Champlain. Sponsorship donations not only help to support the events throughout the day on July 9th, but, more importantly, donations help Sunrise Rotary support community-based projects such as the Sunrise Rotary Pavilion at Wilcox Dock and the Sunrise Rotary Gazebo at the Samuel D. Champlain monument. In fact, Sunrise Rotary raised over $25,000 for the universally accessible Max Moore Memorial Treehouse on the Saranac River Trail in Plattsburgh. Some of the efforts Sunrise Rotary has supported more recently include the Outdoor Art projects as part of the revitalization of the City of Plattsburgh, and the club donated funds to provide specialized wheel chairs at the Plattsburgh City Beach. In addition, Sunrise Rotary provided funds to build a universally accessible boardwalk on the site of the LaPierre Lane Park, a spur on the planned Saranac River Trail Greenway in Morrisonville, that officially opened to the public in 2018. We were thrilled with the enthusiastic response we received from sponsors and the community. Thank you!
